City schedules April 1 open house on Business 51 reconstruction projects

The City of Stevens Point will hold a public open house in April to present final design plans for the Business 51 corridor reconstruction project. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mid-State Technical College, located at 1001 Centerpoint Dr. City officials are inviting residents, business owners, and property owners to review the plans before construction begins this summer.

The open house will feature an informal format with no formal presentation, allowing attendees to arrive and depart according to their schedules. City staff and representatives from AECOM, the project’s design consultant, will be on-site throughout the evening to answer questions and provide details about the upcoming work.

Business 51 Corridor Reconstruction Details

According to city officials, the Business 51 corridor reconstruction is set to commence during the summer months. The project will focus on two distinct segments of the roadway. The north segment will span from North Point Drive to Briggs Street, while the south segment will extend from the south city limits to Michigan Avenue.

The reconstruction work represents a significant infrastructure investment for Stevens Point. However, specific budget figures and project timelines have not been disclosed by the city at this time. The final design plans to be presented at the open house will provide more comprehensive details about the scope and scale of the improvements.

Community Input Opportunities

Local officials have emphasized the importance of community participation in the planning process. The open-house format was specifically chosen to accommodate varying schedules and allow for one-on-one conversations between residents and project representatives. This approach enables attendees to focus on aspects of the Business 51 corridor reconstruction that are most relevant to their properties or businesses.

Additionally, city officials are encouraging businesses along the affected corridor to attend and learn how construction activities may impact their operations. Property owners in the vicinity of the north and south segments can obtain information about potential disruptions and planned improvements adjacent to their locations.

Alternative Contact Methods

The city recognizes that not all interested parties will be able to attend the April 1 event. For residents who cannot make it to the open house but wish to submit questions or comments, the Department of Public Works Engineering Division has provided alternative contact options. Individuals may call 715-346-1561 or send inquiries via email to the engineering department.

Meanwhile, the city has not indicated whether additional public meetings will be scheduled before construction begins. The April open house appears to be the primary opportunity for residents to review the final designs and provide feedback before work commences on the Business 51 corridor.

Infrastructure Improvements for Stevens Point

The Business 51 corridor serves as a vital transportation route through Stevens Point, connecting residential areas, commercial districts, and regional destinations. Reconstruction efforts typically include improvements to road surfaces, drainage systems, sidewalks, and utility infrastructure. However, the specific elements included in this project will be detailed at the upcoming presentation.

In contrast to some municipal projects that generate controversy, city officials have not reported significant opposition to the corridor reconstruction plans. The emphasis on public engagement suggests an effort to maintain transparency and address concerns before construction activities begin impacting traffic flow and local businesses.

Construction is expected to start this summer following the April open house, though exact start dates have not been confirmed by city officials. Residents seeking the most current information are encouraged to attend the meeting or contact the Public Works Engineering Division directly.
