Rockstar Games has stepped up to address speculations regarding the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), confirming that the highly anticipated title will arrive on May 26, 2026. The company issued a press release to reaffirm the premiere date, putting an end to recent rumors of a new postponement that had been circulating on the web.
This confirmation comes after a series of online reports suggested that internal discussions at Rockstar could push the game back to a later date. Earlier this month, video game insider Millie A had hinted at a possible delay, which sparked panic among fans, who were already aware of the shift from the originally rumored 2025 release window. With this new statement, Rockstar emphasized that the date revealed in the second official trailer, published earlier this year, remains unchanged.
Rockstar’s word and the confidence of a former developer
In the announcement, Rockstar acknowledged the massive hype surrounding the project and thanked players for their patience. The company noted that the additional development time is necessary to deliver the expected quality, but assured that the May 2026 date is a firm target.
The official statement reads: “Grand Theft Auto VI is now scheduled for release on May 26, 2026. We are sorry this is later than expected, and we thank you for your support and patience while we work to finish the game. Our goal has always been to exceed expectations, and GTA VI is no exception. We are eager to share more soon.”
In addition, former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij, who worked at the company for 14 years on projects like Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA IV, has backed the decision. In response to a question on X (Twitter) about whether the game could be delayed again, Vermeij stated: “Rockstar had a choice and chose May 26. They are confident. They will make the final decision about five months prior. Any ‘GTA 6 delay’ rumors before December are just for attention.”
The hype for the new features
Although discussions about potential delays have dominated headlines, players are equally hooked on the game’s new details. GTA 6 introduces two main characters, Jason and Lucia, whose story is inspired by the mythical outlaw couple Bonnie and Clyde. The narrative unfolds in Leonida, a fictional state based on Florida, with Vice City as the epicenter of the map.
Rockstar has confirmed several features that are fueling the hype in the gamer community:
-
Expanded map: The game world will be larger and more detailed than in previous titles, with new areas and the possible return of Liberty City.
-
New mechanics: Systems such as a “love meter” to track relationships between characters and an in-game social media platform will be included, adding more layers to the experience.
-
Longer campaign: The story mode is expected to last around 75 hours, more than double the length of the GTA V campaign.
-
Immersive environment: Players will be able to explore diverse environments within Leonida, with Vice City acting as the main hub for missions.
With the date now reaffirmed, fans can prepare for one of the most significant video game releases of next year, as GTA 6 draws ever closer to its highly anticipated debut. The third trailer, rumored to be already in the planning stages, could give us even more details.
